Emma Isela Martinez

Emma Isela Martinez, 57, passed away on June 16, 2019 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. After her battle with Lupus, she has found peace. She was born on June 9, 1962 in El Paso, Texas to Carlos and Emma (Marquez) Martinez.

Auntie Em added a splash of color to all aspects of her life. Our sister's humor was infectious and she will be missed dearly. Anyone who knew Emma, knew she was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and defended them as children and as adults. She had a true love of life and many interests.

Emma was raised in California but claimed Cloudcroft as her true home. When she was in high school, she played softball and danced in the Ballet Folcorico. She discovered a talent for art on both paper and skin and would be flown all over California to do unique tattoos on special clients. She decided she needed a more formal education and when in college became the president of the art society and the vice president of the student body. She recently finished her AA degree. Everyone who met her was charmed by her and fell in love with her. Her presence and essence will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her mother, Emma Martinez; partner, Gretchen Van Boemel; four sisters, Julie Lucio, Monique Martinez, Gabriella Martinez, and Graciela Hamilton; brother, Gustavo Martinez; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlos Martinez and brothers, Carlos Martinez, Jr. and Rafael Martinez.

The funeral service for Emma Martinez will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, June 28, 2019 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keenan Witcher officiating.

The family would be honored for you to join them in a Celebration of Life for Emma following the service at 3635 Mosswood in Alamogordo, NM.
