Yvonne Abeyta-Suekinos

In loving memory of Yvonne Abeyta-Suekinos, 64, of Alamogordo passed away on Sunday January 2, 2022.

She was born on April 5, 1957 in Espanola, NM to Levi and Margaret (Martinez) Abeyta.  She is the second of 6 children in a warm and close-knit family. She attended Alamogordo schools and graduated in 1975 from Irvin High School in El Paso, Texas and NMSU-Alamogordo with an Associate’s degree in Accounting.  Yvonne lived in Alamogordo the majority of her life.

Yvonne was a member of The Worship Center and enjoyed her Bible study group.  She formerly worked at Security Bank and Trust, and her father’s business, Testing Laboratories, Inc. for many years before working recently at Southern NM Outreach Inc.  She is survived by her son, Richard Ashbaugh and daughter, Michelle Suekinos.  She enjoyed reading, puzzles, cooking, and tending her vegetable and rose garden.  She also delighted in hosting family and impromptu gatherings with friends and family with her great cooking of Tamales, Stuffed Sopaipillas, Enchiladas, and Chili stews.

Though Yvonne experienced some very challenging hardships along the way, she always persisted and conquered those roadblocks with remarkable success. She fought this last battle with incredible strength and faith in our Lord as her struggle continued to worsen. We believe Yvonne now rests in Heaven and has joined loved ones who preceded her: former husband, John Suekinos;  father, Levi Abeyta; and sister, Irene Abeyta-Wilson. She is survived by her mother, Margaret; two adult children, Richard Ashbaugh (Tandi) of Ruidoso, NM and Michelle Suekinos of Alamogordo; her siblings, Ralph (Gloria) of Rio Rancho, Robert (Paula) of Albuquerque, Michael (Maria) of Lincoln, CA and Carolyn of Las Cruces, NM; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Yvonne’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at The Worship Center, 823 E 10th Street in Alamogordo, NM.  A small family gathering may follow. (TBD) 

The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home and The Worship Center to direct the services.
