Vicki Rios Obituary

Vicki Joann (Charnesky) Rios died on May 27, 2024, in Alamogordo, New Mexico.  Vicki was born July 9, 1959, to Margaret Dorothy (Goga) Rinke and Joseph Roger Charnesky, both of whom preceded her in death.  Vicki is survived by her beloved daughter and grandson.  Her only son died on July 28, 2019, from complications of Juvenile Diabetes.  She is also survived by five siblings, Chris Charnesky (Ginny and daughter), Mark Charnesky (Joanne and family), Laura Nasarzewski (Thomas and Son), Susan Reason (her sons), and David Charnesky (Ken Horn). Vicki spent her early years in Howell, Michigan, and graduated in 1978 from Howell High School.  As a student, she participated in 4-H, where she learned knitting and crocheting, which she continued to enjoy throughout her life, completing many quilts for her family and friends.  She served in the US Air Force from March 1981 through February 1985, and subsequently earned degrees in Social Work and Nursing.  In an accomplished career as a nurse and nursing supervisor, she worked in many challenging settings, including emergency rooms, intensive care units, and hospice, always seeking to couple knowledge and experience with a commitment to patient service, comfort and care.

In 2008, while working as a Registered Nurse at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan, she was awarded the Daisy Foundation’s Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.  The award citation, at www.daisyfoundation.org/daisy-award/honorees/vicki-rios, describes Vicki perfectly.  Her easy laughter, warmth and compassion will be sorely missed but dearly remembered and cherished by her family, friends and colleagues.
