Velma Joyner Obituary

Velma Faye Joyner, 95, passed away at the family residence in Alamogordo, NM on March 15, 2023. She was born on April 6, 1927, in Amherst, TX to parents John and Myrtle Lora (McAnaley) Muller. She married her husband and lifelong partner in 1948. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on January 21. She married her husband, Lloyd, in a small church in Fieldton, TX and then moved to Lawton, OK. In 1956, they moved with their family of three to Highland, CA where they resided for thirty years. After retirement from Sears and Roebuck, and Faye's years working in the San Bernardino Public School system, they decided to make their final home in Alamogordo, NM.

Faye's family was everything to her! She loved each and every one of them, from the first grandchild to the last great-great grandchild with a heart so filled with love and keen interest in each one that it could be rivaled only by God Himself. As a result of that, the family was always ready to travel, sometimes many miles to go see grandma and bask in that "special" kind of love. She was a hospitable woman who often opened her home to missionaries or visiting pastors passing through their home church in CA. Her warm, open spirit blessed them for an overnight stay. They would have the best home-cooked meal ending with her famous apple pie. And if they raved enough, she would send them out with a whole fresh baked apple pie. One such recipient was the now famous Rick Warren of the "Purpose Driven Life".

Faye loved traveling with her husband in their trailer seeing many states and visiting the special sights that they were known for. Of course, when they joined with the Good Sam's Club and traveled as a group, her joy increased exponentially. Her church was always a prominent part of her life. Her faith in God was her guiding light and made her a joy to be around. The women of the church were a support to her during the good and bad times. This group of people, brothers and sisters in Christ, was her dear family throughout her life.

Faye is survived by her husband, Lloyd; three children, Bill Joyner of Loomis, CA, Karen Sanford of Running Springs, CA, and Karla Creighton of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Two grandchildren have preceded her in death.

Faye will be sorely missed by many, but our loss is Heaven's gain.
