Terry Jane (Burk) Coley

Terry Jane (Burk) Coley was born in El Paso, Texas on November 11, 1953, the youngest of 7 children to Otto and Emily (Nelson) Burk. She passed peacefully at her Tularosa home on July 25, 2024, surrounded by her pets and family. She is survived by her children, Michael (Brenda) Coley, Timothy Coley, Christopher Coley, and Heather Powell. She has one granddaughter, Abigail.

As a loving mother she valued education, service, and hard work which she demonstrated daily. She volunteered with the La Luz Elementary School PTA to raise funds for what was to become the new elementary school. She worked to keep her kids and others out of trouble and took great pride in teaching drug prevention programs in underserved communities.  She went on to obtain an associate degree from New Mexico State University in Radiology Technology.  She volunteered as a coach with the 4-H shooting program and equestrian teams and served as President of the Zia Paint Horse Club. In her retirement, she found new joy crewing for the White Sands Balloon Invitational.  

Terry loved animals, especially her beloved horses, taking great pride in working with horses her entire life from being a jockey, to training and showing in English and Western riding, additionally working at veterinary clinics. She passed her love of animals on to her kids.  She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, her kids and granddaughter's activities, and watching her animals play in the yard. She will be dearly missed.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel.

The Funeral Service for Terry Coley will be held at 11:00 am, Friday August 2, 2024, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel.

The Coley family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
