Santiago (James) Fuentes

Santiago (James) Fuentes, age 87, died peacefully at his home in Tularosa, NM on December 1, 2021 surrounded by Janet and loved ones by his side. He was born November 27, 1934 to Juan and Elvira Fuentes in Alamogordo, NM. He graduated from Alamogordo High School and shortly after entered the Navy where he served for three years. He retired from the United State Postal Service (Holloman) and also retired from the Tularosa Schools.

After a previous marriage, he met and married Onecima (Nancy) and together they had a blended family of eight; Tony (Sue) of Michigan, Jamie Fuentes of Michigan, Paula Fuentes of South Carolina, Paul (Tiffany) Fuentes of Albuquerque, NM, Betty (Virgil) Reynolds, Leonard Corona, Libby Guilez, Gerlene (Paul) all of New Mexico. Together they had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Cecilia Garcia, Terry Weber and Josie (Ray) Sanchez.

Granddaughter Janet Chavez and husband Albert along with their children, Louis, RayAnn and Tamara, tenderly cared for him for many years. He loved all sports whether professional, college or hometown. He followed Louis till graduation and did make most of the girl's games till his body couldn’t anymore. He was a true Wildcat fan and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by wife, Nancy of 42 years; parents, Juan and Elvira Fuentes; sisters, Reynalda Borunda and Mary Cupp.

Services will be held on December 9, 2021 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa, NM. Viewing will be held at 9:30 am, Rosary at 10:30 am with Celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 am. A dinner will follow at the Parish Hall.

Pallbearers include Justin Voorbach, Randy Guilez, Manual Corona, Derek Voorbach, Leonard Corona, and Paul Voorbach.

Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James truly loved everyone and his infectious smile will be greatly missed by everyone. 

The Fuentes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
