Robert E. Humes, known affectionately as Bob, passed away on August 16, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on February 21, 1929, in Marion, Ohio, Bob spent much of his life in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Bob enjoyed a fulfilling career with the railroad, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring. A passionate sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Chicago Cubs. He was often found watching games and sharing his insights with friends and family. In his leisure time, he loved indulging in his hobbies of horse racing, baseball, and golf.
Bob’s warm spirit and love for animals, especially his dogs and cats, brought joy to those around him. He was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His family and friends will forever cherish the special memories created through countless holidays and events, which showcased his deep commitment to his loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Eileen) Humes of New Carlisle, IN, Bruce (Debbie) Humes of Toledo, OH, Thomas (Sandy) Humes of San Antonio, TX, and Timothy Humes of Mt Gilead, OH; stepchildren, Nancy Newhall of Tucson, AZ, Cathy Burnes of Tucson, AZ, Teresa (Steve) Aylward of Homosassa, FL, Richard (Tearsa) Forward of Prescott Valley, AZ; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Emma Humes; his brother, Donald; his sisters, Helen and Ruth; his first wife, Patricia Ann Humes; his second wife, Nancy Humes; and stepson, Thomas.
Bob was an active member of the Alamogordo New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, where he made lasting connections within his community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and passion that will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
A graveside service for Robert Humes will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Monte Vista Cemetery with Pastor David Holycross officiating.
The Humes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
