Richard (Dick) Pifer Obituary

Richard Laurance Pifer (Dick) passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at age 88 years.

Dick was born August 7, 1933 in Reynoldsville, PA to Cyrus Pifer and Laura Brubaker.  He graduated from Sykesville High School in PA in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Oct 1951 where he made a career that allowed him to travel overseas to such places as Hawaii, Alaska and Greece. He retired in 1979 as an E-8 after completing a remote tour in Saudi Arabia. He married Doris Brochey on March 19, 1955 and together they had 3 children (Michele, Richard and Candi).

Dick enjoyed his military life, golfing, horse-back riding and spending time with family. His biggest love was his wife, Doris (Dodie) and their children. When Dick was very young (around 3) his father left their family.  Instead of crying about his luck, Dick decided then that if he ever had any children he wanted to let them know they were loved…and he did that plenty.  He was always there for his children, getting involved in whatever activities his children were interested in (baseball coach, softball coach, horse riding coach/companion, fishing, camping, golfing). Anything his kids took an interest in is where you would find Dick.  If you asked Dick he would tell you he was the richest man in the world - because he had more than he ever desired.

Dick is survived by his two daughters and son, Michele Simons and her husband Dennis, Candi Hutchins, and Richard W. Pifer and his wife Scherie.  He has four granddaughters, Stacy Simons, Ashley Simons, Schera Pifer Schuette, and Jahna Hutchins Perrine; one grandson, Ryan Hutchins; two great grandsons, Noah Richard Perrine and Connor Perrine.  He is also survived by siblings, Linda (James) McCord, Dee (Bertie) Hewitt and John (Bobby) Hewitt.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Doris (Dodie) Pifer and his brother, William (Bill) Pifer.

Funeral services will not be held. The family will hold a private gathering to celebrate Dick’s life. However, the family would like to acknowledge the efforts, assistance, compassion, and love that Alamogordo Hospice and Home Health Care provided throughout Dick’s final days.
