Reba Ellen (Cavener) Loring Camp, age 87, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. She was born in Elida, New Mexico, to Thomas and Sylvania Cavener on January 13, 1934. She was the youngest of nine children, having six sisters and two brothers, one of whom died at the age of 2. When Reba was very young the family moved to Portales, New Mexico, where she attended school and graduated from Portales High School in 1952. She attended Eastern New Mexico University where she obtained degrees in Physical Education, Business Education, and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She and her family strongly believed everyone should have a good education.
After graduating from E.N.M.U., she moved to Eunice, New Mexico, where she worked as a church secretary for Reverend Hoyt Welch. During that time, she met Donald Bob Loring whom she fell in love with and married on May 24, 1957. The two resided in Clovis, New Mexico where Reba taught Physical Education at Gattis Junior High. A few years later, she started teaching at Highland Elementary School and taught there until she retired. Reba and Don were both devoted members of the Sandia Baptist Church in Clovis.
In 1995, her husband, Donald Bob Loring passed away. Two years later Reba met Wayne Joe Camp from Lovington, New Mexico and the two got married on December 31, 1998.. The couple moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 2011, to live near Reba's daughters. Reba and Wayne were both active members of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Reba has always been a firm believer in Jesus Christ and very devoted to her church. She was a very loving and kind person who took care of many elderly people throughout the years. She enjoyed playing games, doing crafts, and spending time with family and friends.
Reba was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters (Jennie May Brown, Nina Ross, Naomi Horton, Oleta Jordan and Eudora Harris), Don Loring and Wayne Camp, and numerous family members.
Reba is survived by her two daughters, Jan Moon and her husband Chuck, and Cynthia Baker and her husband Jimmy, and Wayne's children, Janis Specht, Carey Camp and his wife Ginger, and Jerry Camp and his wife Patsy, She is also survived by her sister Rodean Jordan and brother James Cavener and his wife Ann. Further, Reba is survived by grandchildren Kristina Moon, Becky Gleason, and David Baker, as well as Becky Brown and her husband and children, Rachel Moon and Ashleigh Duerling, and numerous nieces and nephews. Reba is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Lily Gleason.
Funeral services for Reba will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 20, 2021, at Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo, New Mexico. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 23, at the Lawn Haven Cemetery in Clovis, New Mexico.
Reba's sweet, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Those who wish to make a contribution can donate to the Baptist Children's Home since that was dear to Reba.
