It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Prestinia Chavez, who passed away in Alamogordo, NM on June 3, 2024.
Prestinia was born on October 18, 1946, to Juan and Edna (Phillips) Torrez in Carrizozo, NM and was the second of seven children. She grew up in the Alamogordo area and lived in White Rock, NM for 34 years with her former husband, Arthur Chavez and children.
She is survived by her former spouse of 49 years, Arthur Chavez; her beloved family including her sons, David Chavez and Ray Chavez (Venessa) of Nambe NM; grandchildren, Celina Vigil (Aram Garcia), Isaiah Vigil, Diego Chavez, Emilio Chavez, Marcelo Chavez, and Marcos Chavez; great grandchildren, Arabel and Amani Garcia; siblings, Celia (Jimmy) Contreras, Geri (Frank (d.)) Cano, Benny (Maria) Torrez, Orlando Torrez, John (MaryAnn) Torrez; numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Edna Torrez; sister, Bertha Torrez; grandson, Lorenzo Chavez.
Prestinia was a bright and beautiful soul who left a deep impression on everyone she met with her unforgettable smile and laughter, and enthusiasm for life and her loved ones. She was creative, sewed beautifully, and was an amazing cook. She had many passions and found great joy and delight in so many things including reading, home decorating, antiques, scrapbooking, and watching golf. She was extremely generous and loved showering her friends and loved ones with thoughtful gifts. Her family and friends were all most dear to her, but her greatest pride and joy were her two sons and her grandchildren. She will always hold a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
There will be a Rosary and Mass services in her honor at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz, NM on Thursday, June 13, 2024, Rosary at 10:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am with Internment and Reception to follow.
The Chavez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
