Phillip Holcomb Obituary

Phillip Lee Holcomb, 68, a longtime rancher, devoted husband, loving father of three, and doting grandfather of three, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2025.

Phillip was born in Alamogordo on December 27, 1956, to Roy and Margaret Holcomb. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1975. From the age of 6, Phillip followed in his father, Roy’s, footsteps and worked alongside him on the family ranch. Phillip later fulfilled his dream of owning and running his own ranch, the U2 Cattle Ranch, with his wife and the love of his life, Neva.

Phillip married Neva on February 4, 1984. Over 40 years of marriage, their love and devotion to one another was evident to all who knew them. Together, they worked tirelessly side by side on their cattle ranch.

Phillip was a compassionate and loving father to Patrick, Ryan, and Brandi Holcomb, who will miss his warm and humorous presence. He supported them in all aspects of their lives and took pride in their accomplishments. His children will honor his legacy by continuing to work the ranch and care for the land and animals he loved.

He took great pride in being a grandfather to Everett, Preston, and Eleanor Holcomb. Whether cheering them on at athletic games or teaching them his cowboy ways, Phillip cherished being called “Papa” by his grandchildren.

Phillp’s character spoke for itself as he made friends with anyone he met. He demonstrated service through his coaching and mentorship as a basketball coach in Otero County for many years. He was known for his gentle soul, kindness, honesty, patience, and ability to make you chuckle. Phillip was an avid gun collector and enthusiast with a deep love for Old West history. Known as “Cowboy Phil” to friends, he embodied the spirit of an old-school cowboy.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Holcomb. He is survived by his wife, Neva Holcomb; his son, Patrick Holcomb; his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Mary Holcomb; his daughter, Brandi Holcomb; his three grandchildren, Everett, Preston, and Eleanor Holcomb; his brother, Omer Holcomb; and his sisters, Judyann Medeiros and Rosemary Ford. Phillip will ride easy, driving his cattle through Heaven’s perfect ranges.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Scenic Chapel with Pastor Dusty Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.

The Holcomb family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
