Paster James Edward Forney, age 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 8, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1947, in Johnson City, TN and was preceded in death by his dad, mom, and two brothers.
Pastor James E. Forney served the United States Airforce for 27 years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant.
He has served as pastor of Corinth Baptist Church since September 1991. He has held positions as President of the local chapter of the Otero Branch of the NAACP, President of the United Way of Otero County, Secretary and Treasurer for the Center of Protective Environment, Inc., Board of Chairman of the local Big Bothers, Big Sisters organization, President of the White Sands Rotary Club, and Treasurer for KBVA television station. He was also a Big Brother for 13 years and mentored eight young men (Littles). Pastor Forney served ten years as the Moderator for the New Hope District Association, 16 years as President of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist State Convention, Advocate for the Superintendent of Alamogordo Public Schools.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful wife, Neva Forney; daughter, Ida Davis (Glen); brother Rev. Paul Forney (Ginger); sisters, Suzanne Hariston, Deleon Dunbar, Carol McCoy; a host of nieces and nephews; along with his Corinth Baptist Church family and 10 sons in the ministry.
The Funeral Service for James Forney will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Corinth Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Calihan officiating.
Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The Forney family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
