Olivia Subia Zagone

Olivia Subia Zagone, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away August 24, 2023. Olivia was born in Candelaria, Texas, on May 23, 1925. She married Samuel Subia in 1948. They were married 28 years and had 10 children. 

Olivia was an active volunteer at St. Jude Catholic Church. She was the coordinator of the Blue Army, member of the Rosary Society, a Eucharistic minister, and a choir member. She worked for the Senior Center as an outreach worker for seven years. In 1991, she married Pete Zagone. They participated in the New Mexico Senior Olympics. She received medals in walking, dancing, and the Senior Choir. She and Pete loved dancing, golfing, and going on cruises. 

Olivia is proceeded in death by her parents; her first husband, Samuel; her second husband, Pete; her grandson, Samuel Sullivan; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Morales. 

She is survived by five sisters: Virginia, Elidia, Carol, Anita, and Alicia; 10 children: Benilde Morales and husband Arturo of Alamogordo; Samuel Subia and wife Jane Rael of Albuquerque; Hilda Sullivan and husband Paul of Bristol, England; Nelda Lawler and husband Michael of Buffalo, NY; Imelda Smith and husband Rick of Sacramento, CA; Debra Lawrence and husband Audice of Tehachapi, CA; Lupita Wesseler and husband Rick of Bend, OR; Robert Subia and wife Maria of Phoenix, AZ; Gilbert Subia of Alamogordo; and Monica Taylor and husband Kevin of Escondido, CA; 14 grandchildren: Archie Jr. and Michael Morales; Sarah (Collins), Nathan, and Shaina (Bonvissuto)Lawrence; Aaron and Kyra Taylor, Molly and Michael Lawler; Gabriella and Guillema Smith; Christina (Mead) and Kimberly (Johnson) Wesseler; and Joe Sullivan; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 7 stepchildren, 19 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church.
