Norman Austin Avila

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Norman Austin Avila, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2022 in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by his family.  He was born to Louis and Grace Avila on March 28, 1954 in Tucumcari, NM.

Norman is survived by his beautiful wife of 33 years, Dianne Avila; his sons, Bobby Malett and wife Trish, and Jeremy Malett and wife Della; grandchildren, Kody Malett and wife Breanna, Trenton Malett, McKayla Malett, Brayden Rooney, and Katelyn Rooney; great grandchildren, Beau Dean Malett and Paislee Elizabeth Malett; three brothers, Dennis Avila and wife Marian, Gary Avila and wife Becky, Larry Avila and wife Patsy; and sister, Diane Avila and husband Eric Szeman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Louis Pete Avila, and mother, Grace Eloisa Avila.

Norman’s passion in life was his family and his years serving as a PE teacher.  He was born and raised in NM and attended college in Silver City at Western New Mexico University.  Norman graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree and went on to be the head elementary PE teacher for Alamogordo Public Schools for many years.  He gave his heart and soul to his students, was a true mentor, and was loved by all he came in contact with. 

The memorial service for Norman will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Christ Community Church, Alamogordo, NM with Pastor Tyler Grace officiating.

A reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall at Christ Community Church.

The Avila family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
