Nathaniel “Nate” Christian entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the age of 64. He was born on February 11, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland to Douglas E. Christian and Ruth H. Christian.
Nate had been a resident of Alamogordo for more than 25 years and proudly served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Holloman Air Force Base. His distinguished military career included tours in Alaska, the Middle East, and Cuba. He retired honorably at the rank of TSgt. in 1999 after 20 years of dedicated service to his country.
A graduate of Loyola Catholic High School in Baltimore, Maryland, Nate was a devout Catholic and faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alamogordo. He was known for his compassionate heart, his devotion to prayer, and his willingness to support those in need.
Nate was also a passionate sports enthusiast and a lover of music, embodying a free-spirited nature and joyful outlook on life. He was an active member of the local NAACP, serving as Secretary, and a devoted volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Otero County. His mentorship of local youth earned him multiple nominations for “Big Brother of the Month.”
Nate is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Hermelinda Christian; his daughter, Elizabeth Christian and grandchildren, Delilah, Elliotte, Lilly, and Jacoby; his son, Nathaniel Christian Jr., all of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Bernadine (Esquero) Lowery and her husband Jerry; grandchildren, Heather Ann (Lowery) Bell and Tyler Jacob Lowery; great grandchildren, Liam Patton, Violet Margaret, and Marceline, all of Mount Independence, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, he is survived by his stepson, Mark Esquero Jr. and wife Kymberly of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Celina Esquero, Alyxander Esquero, Monique Torres, and Ryan Ramer; great grandchild, Sabastian Ramer. He is also survived by his stepson, Fabian Esquero and wife Lorna of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Mia Esquero and Alyssa Esquero.
Nate leaves behind his sisters, Naomi Christian and Janice Christian, both of Baltimore, Maryland; his brother, Michael Christian and wife Sharon of Radcliff, Kentucky; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Ruth Christian; brothers, Charles Christian and Douglas Christian Jr.; sister, Esther Christian.
Services for Nathaniel Christian will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Avenue in Alamogordo. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with Mass celebrated at 10:30 am with Father Martin Cornejo, Celebrant.
Rite of Committal will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso Texas.
