Michael Dwayne Burnett, 76, of Alamogordo, New Mexico passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, at his home. Michael was born in Clovis, New Mexico, on September 5, 1947, to Clinton and Mary Frances Burnett. He grew up with brother, Larry Burnett and sister, Sherry Welborn, Michael being the youngest of the three.
After graduating from Gatesville High School, Michael joined the Marines and was stationed in Vietnam where he bravely fought in the Battle of Khe Sanh. He was awarded the air medal by the Marines 17 times. After returning from the war, Michael applied himself to many trades, welder, farmer, rancher, and motorcycle mechanic. His lifelong love for motorcycles eventually led to him owning his own Suzuki dealership in Clovis, NM. Michael also found time to attend Eastern New Mexico University to achieve a bachelor's in history, of which he was very proud.
On February 5, 1971, Michael married the love of his life, Debra Massey, and they were married for 52 years. They had a daughter, Stephanie Uselton (Jim), of Seneca, KS, as well as a son, Christopher Burnett, of Albuquerque, NM. Michael also had two daughters from previous marriages, Francis Wells, of Bald Knob, AR and Melissa Bumann, of Mesa, AZ. His legacy continues with four grandchildren, Slade Uselton, Tessa Wood, Kayla Little, and Mitchell Forti.
The Graveside Service for Michael Burnett will be held at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Chuck Moon officiating.
The Burnett family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
