Mary S. Melendrez, 98, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021. She was born on January 28, 1923, in Fort Bliss, Texas to Ramon and Vivian Apodaca.
Mary had the heart of a servant. Always quick to offer help and give God the glory, she was a shining example of Christian love to all who knew her. Mary’s strong faith guided her as a mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the one everyone went to for advice and encouragement. Mary’s positive outlook on life radiated through her ever-present smile and the unconditional love she gave, was a magnet for the children in her life. She had the ability to make you feel happy, safe and understood. Many people love and miss her dearly.
Survivors include her children Juanita Seley, Mary Ellen Zamora, and Carlitos Melendrez as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel J. Melendrez; her father Ramon and mother Vivian Apodaca; and her son Manny Melendrez, Jr.
The Melendrez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
The Lord was Mary’s shepherd, all the days of her life and she will dwell in His house forever.
Knowing that one day she would move on to her heavenly home, Mary wanted to share the following poem…
My last words to you all, I am home in heaven dear ones.
Oh so happy, and so bright in the everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over, every relentless tossing is passed.
I am now at peace forever safely home in heaven at last.
But there is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand.
Do it now while life remaineth. You shall rest in God's
own land when that walk is all completed. You shall be ready
and he will gently call you home. Oh the rapture, that meeting,
oh the joy to see you come!
I have gone home to see His face at last, Love one another,
serve Him every day. May God be with you all.
