Mary Joann Light, 90, went home to be with her Lord on May 19, 2024. She passed peacefully at a nursing home in Las Cruces with friends and loved ones at her side.
Mary was born in Hereford, Texas. She graduated high school from Springer High School. She spent many years in Clovis, NM and then the family moved to Tularosa, NM. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Billie Harrison; two sisters, Louise Runnels and Wanda Jean Longstreth; her beloved husband of 32 years, Walter Light.
Mary was always very active in her local Baptist churches. She volunteered in many capacities. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, visited the homebound, and helped fill Christmas boxes for children in need with the Christmas Across Borders program. Mary’s faith in God guided her throughout her life.
Mary was the solid rock of her family. Everyone knew that Mary would help and support them in any way that she could. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She is survived by her siblings, Gayla Messick and James Harrison; her five children, Sandra Jennings, Jimmy Light, Vicki Jones, Donna Light, and Forrest Reames. She has six grandchildren, Jeremy Roberts, Erika Montoya, Ruthie Light, Joshua Jones, Anika Jones-Schoenbaum, Aspyn Hayter; as well as eight great grandchildren.
“If you remember me, I will always be with you.” We will all remember this wonderful woman.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
The Light family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
