Mary Emperatriz Garcia, 80, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Alamogordo, NM. She was born on June 26, 1944, in Carrizozo, NM to Luis Benevidez-Chavez and Margarita Gutierrez-Chavez.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ray Chavez, Leo Chavez, Ricardo Chavez; sister, Mela Chapman; sister-in-law, Kim Chavez; and great granddaughter, Kiana.
Mary was a wonderful and cherished mother, wife, daughter, sister, nanny (grandma), aunt, friend, and Godmother to many. Mary and David spent most of their retired life with each other. She loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all of her heart. Mary was the best mom in the world to Tony, Chris and Michael, she had never ending unconditional love for them. Mom was known for making the best homemade tortillas and red chili.
Mary is survived by her husband, David Garcia of fifty-seven years; her three sons, Tony Garcia and wife Pam and their children, Ruth Walker, Tony Jr. (Nicole) Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Sara (Chris) Harper, and Eric Southern; Chris Garcia; Michael and wife Saida Garcia and their children, Michele (Ben) Graham, Alyssia Garcia, Kareyn (Joshua) Rodgers, Horacio (Nicole) Quintanilla, Fabian Quintanilla (Deja), Daniel Quintanilla (Alondra); 19 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and God children; brother, Philip Chavez, sister, Teresita (Ray) Vigil; very special friends, Ellie (Veronica) Gutierrez and Liz Torres.
Mary was deeply loved by all who knew her and will live on for generations to come in each of our cherished memories. Thank you, Alamogordo Hospice, Donna and team, for your great support and wonderful care of Mary.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited by Ray and Teresita Vigil at 10:00 am with Funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Alamogordo, NM.
