Obituary

Martin Arturo Calles Briseno (Breezy) of Alamogordo, New Mexico has passed away and went to Heaven to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. He passed at the age of 74 on the night of October 24, 2021 in Las Cruces New Mexico after several months of being ill.

Martin was a graduate of Alamogordo Senior High School in 1967. He attended Englewood Technical School in Englewood, CO for 6 months. Soon after, he was drafted into the US Army where he served at Ft. Bliss, TX; Vietnam; Ft. Lewis, WA; and Ft. Belvoir, VA. He then returned to Alamogordo in 1971 and began working for the  Alamogordo Public Schools for 9 years. In 1980, Martin left the schools and began working for Civil Service at White Sands Missile Range as a Security Guard. About the same time, he joined the New Mexico Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. He left security and went to Logistics/Power Support in 1983. In 1987, he was rifted and was picked up by Holloman Air Force Base in the CES Power Support and Flight Line Barrier Maintenance Shop where he worked until his retirement in 2012.

Martin's life was made short and ended to soon because of complications from his many illnesses over the last 2 months.

He had many interests and hobbies. His favorites were gardening and his backyard, leather craft and being an avid reader of Bible Prophecy. Martin also loved his dogs, cats and other animals. He loved volunteering for any cause. He was a 4-H leader, Royal Ambassador leader, worked 3 years for Camp Enchantment, Sertoma Muscular Dystrophy Association, and was a worker in 3 Bingo halls and at the Little Catholic School with a Big Heart (Father James B. Hay School).

In 1978, Martin met and married the love of his life, his wife Gwen of the family home. In 1979 and 1982, they welcomed their two beautiful daughters, Christina Marlena and Valerie Amanda. Martin loved life and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend to many.

Martin is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gwendolyn; daughters, Christina Briseno (Joe) of Albuquerque, NM and Valerie Smith (Craig) of Tucson, AZ; grandsons, Marques Briseno, Adrian Pena and Anthony Pena, all of Albuquerque, NM, three very wonderful men that Martin was very proud of.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margarita and Margarito Briseno; grandparents, Elias and Delfina Calles; two brothers; one sister; two uncles; one aunt; cousins; and many good friends and classmates.

Thanks to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Northrise Rehab and Nursing Center, and Alamogordo Funeral Home for the care and rest of our loved one. Love to all who have touched our family.

A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
