Marlin D. Virden, 87, of Tularosa, NM passed away on October 30, 2023, at Home with Loved Ones. Marlin was born in Tularosa, NM on January 24, 1936, to Ben and Mary (Wingfield) Virden.
Marlin graduated from high school in 1954. Upon graduation, he worked as an electrician with his Uncle Walker. In 1958, he went to work at Holloman AFB, as an Air Conditioning Mechanic and later as an Electrical Planner until his retirement in 1988. During his time working at HAFB, he served as the Base Chapter President of the National Federation of Federal Employees. Once retired, he went into ranching full-time. He raised registered Hereford cattle for a number of years, then switched to Angus and Brangus. Marlin ran water lines and did brush and erosion control projects which increased the use of the land, and he received awards from NRCS for his work. Marlin enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his children and grandchildren when he could make the time to go.
Marlin is survived by his daughter, Judy (Larry Shay); son, Buddy (Nancy); son, Eugene (Ellen); stepson, Terry Skaggs (Margret); grandchildren, Debbie deLao, Dwain Virden, Travis Virden, Kyle Virden, Kevin Virden, Marlina Virden, and Joe, Robert, and Zack Skaggs; six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ben and Mary; brother, Dan; sister, Marylou Beaty; wife, Joan; and stepson, Wendell.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa. A potluck will be held after the service (location to be announced).
