Maria P. Vega

Maria P. Vega was born on March 17, 1939, in Lorraine, Texas and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 16, 2025, in El Paso, Texas. 

Maria was hard-working since childhood, working on a ranch in Texas before moving to Alamogordo. She then worked at a local dry cleaner, met and married Ignacio H. Vega in 1956 moving to San Diego Naval Station. They returned to Alamogordo in 1957 and started a family. Maria worked at the Blind School and Presto Products factory for twenty years. She then worked as a caregiver until she retired. Maria loved working in her yard and tending her garden, often restoring unhealthy plants that she received or bought at a discount. Maria raised four children and helped with her seven grandchildren. She was a proud mother of two sons who proudly served this great country and a proud grandmother of grandsons and a great grandson who also serve/served our country.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, John P Vega Sr. and Pedro J Vega; brothers and one sister. She is survived by her loving husband of over 68 years, Ignacio; her loving children, Larry Vega (Jan) and Mary Antoinette Vega; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; seven brothers and four sisters. 

Maria was a devout Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Visitation begins at 9:30 am with a Rosary, Funeral Mass, and burial to follow. A reception will follow services at her home, 1207 Hendrix Ave.
