Maria Lucia (Lucy) Montes

Maria Lucia (Lucy) Montes entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.  She was born September 16, 1932 to Estevan and Miquela Hernandez.  

She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Montes Sanchez (Jerry) and grandson, Jesus Sanchez. 

Lucia graduated from Hondo High School in Hondo, New Mexico.  She married Jesus Montes on September 18, 1954 spending 64 years together.  They eventually moved to Alamogordo New Mexico in 1958 where they lived out their lives.  Lucia was a homemaker and also worked at Casa Arena for 10 year as the assistant activities director. Lucia enjoyed making clothes, cooking and working outside in her garden.  She was an avid musician who played the guitar, mandolin and piano.  

Lucia was preceded in death by her loving husband; son, Robert Montes; grandson, Johnny Ray Sanchez; an her parents. 

Lucia passed away at the White Sands Healthcare facility in Hobbs, NM where she spent the last two years of her life.  We would like to thank the staff at White Sands for providing her with professional care.  

A private burial service was held with immediate family only at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.   

The Montes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
