Margaret Duran Sanchez

Margaret Duran Sanchez continued to eternal rest and celebration on April 20, 2023. Raised in La Luz, she lived in Tularosa since 1963. A civil servant at heart, she served in the Otero County Clerk’s office for over two decades, ending her professional career in the Otero County Road Department office. She enjoyed volunteering at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center as a Pink Lady in her retirement. A lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Paula, Margaret has many friends in the Tularosa Basin community. 

Margaret is survived by her son, Ray David and wife Louise; grandchildren, Bernadette (Jeff Reneau), Lorenzo (Marlene Morales-Sanchez), and Armando (Allison Hornbeek); eight great grandchildren, Alex, Sianna, Anthony, Kayla, Adin, Mia, Zion, and Eva. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ezequiel Sanchez; parents, Seferino and Gumen Madrid Duran; sisters, Simona Walters, Ramona Rey and Nora Ortiz; brothers, Frank, Ernesto, Ray, and Sam Duran.  

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church at 303 Encino Street, Tularosa, NM 88352. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and residents of the Aristocrat Assisted Living facility for maintaining her social interaction and compassionate care through her last years. 

Services for Margaret Sanchez will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held at 8:30 am with Rosary recited at 9:30 am. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am with Deacon Mariano Melendrez officiating.

Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Cemetery.

The Sanchez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
