Lucy Artiaga Trujillo, age 97, a resident of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home. She was born on August 9, 1928, in Wyoming to Felicianna (Montoya) and Ramon Artiaga. Lucy lived a long and beautiful life centered on faith and family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Sammy G. Trujillo; her parents, Felicianna and Ramon Artiaga; her eldest son, Raymond Artiaga; her daughter, Margaret Trujillo; two grandsons, Ramon Artiaga and Joseph Colon; her great grandson, Damien Helmick; her niece, Jenny Berry; all of her siblings, Georgia Arrendondo, Sally Montoya, Manuel Artiaga, Reynaldo Artiaga, Ben Artiaga, and Antonio Artiaga.
Lucy is survived by her three sons, Henry (Rosario) Artiaga, Billy (Viola) Artiaga, Sam (Robyn) Trujillo; her two daughters, Alice (Gerry) Anderson and Lilly (David/deceased) Johnson; her 17 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lucy was well known in the community for her passion for bingo, her enjoyment of casino trips, and her generous heart as a foster parent to many children over the years. She is especially famous for her homemade tortillas, which she lovingly made for her family, friends, and neighbors until just weeks before her passing. Above all, she will be remembered as a devoted loving “NaNa Lucy” whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone she met.
In keeping with Nana Lucy’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 First Street, Alamogordo, NM from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A reception will follow immediately afterward at Immaculate Conception Church (ICC) Parish Hall, 705 Delaware, Alamogordo, NM. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and help celebrate her extraordinary life.
