Lonnie William Smith

Lonnie William Smith was born on December 19, 1953, in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma to Alfred Brevard and Reta Marie Van Scoder Smith, the second of their three children. He was named for both of his grandfathers, Lonnie Walen Van Scoder and William Henry Smith. 

Lonnie William grew up as an Air Force Brat on bases in the South and Southwest. After “Smitty” retired from the Air Force in 1970, the family relocated to Frederick, Oklahoma where Lonnie William graduated from Frederick High School in 1973. He served in the Air Force until July 1975. He then trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse and held positions in Oklahoma and Arkansas. He lived in Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma until October 2020 when he moved to Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico to be cared for by his sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Ben Stewart. He was under home hospice care at the time of his death on January 18, 2024. After cremation, his ashes will be taken to Oklahoma for burial.

Lonnie William was preceded in death by his father, AB Smith. He is survived by his mother, Reta Smith and younger brother, Michael Smith both of Lawton, OK. He also survived by his older sister, Terri Stewart and brother-in-law, Ben of Alamogordo, NM.
