Linda Jane Castorena

Linda Jane Castorena, 52, of Alamogordo, NM went to heaven on June 16, 2023, after a three and-a-half-year fearless battle with cancer. Linda was born March 2, 1971, to Lena and Bill Castorena and graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1989. Linda received a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Services from New Mexico State University in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Columbia Southern University in 2010. Linda was employed at White Sands Missile Range at the time of her death.

Linda was a positive light, strong in her faith, and a member of The Worship Center Church. She was an incredibly strong woman, courageous, had the best sense of humor, a kind heart, loved and lived life to the fullest. Linda enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, never-ending shenanigans, and was always the life of the party!

Linda excelled at everything she put her mind to, whether it was the Ironman Triathlon, the Disney Dopey 49.3 Mile Challenge (a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon in four days), or the Conquer the Coast 66-mile bike ride, Linda finished them all. Linda also completed the 2021 New York Marathon, her bucket list marathon, in addition to many other half and full marathons. If there was a medal at the end, Linda would run it.

Linda is survived by her life partner, Charlie Bortfeld of Alamogordo; his daughter, Brooke Boren and husband Jon of Las Cruces, grandsons, Ben Boren and wife Olivia of Albuquerque and Jacob Boren of Las Cruces; brothers, Jimmy Castorena, Bill Castorena and wife Rosie all of El Paso, TX; six nieces and nephews; her three doggies, Briley, Retta and Remi; and her devoted “tribe” of friends. Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father. Our “Beaner”, “Mexican Momma”, “Mexican Grandma” joining the angels has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew her.

We send our gratitude to all who cared for Linda during her illness. Our deepest appreciation for Dr. Jennifer Brown of Texas Oncology, who’s commitment to Linda resulted in over three additional years of Linda living life to the fullest. Dr. Brown is now and forever will be a
member of our family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 23, 2023, at The Worship Center in Alamogordo, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alamogordo Hospice or The Worship Center.

The Castorena family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
