Leif Molander Obituary

Leif Douglas Molander, affectionately known as "Mo," passed away suddenly on July 4, 2025, at the age of 47, from an aortic dissection.  His beloved wife, Kelly, was by his side.  In his final moments, Leif was honored with a military salute by his father-in-law and fellow Masons who were also veterans.  His body was draped in the American flag - a fitting tribute to a life of courage and heart.

Born on April 24, 1978, in Waimea, Hawaii, Leif moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico with his family when he was 9.  It became the place where he built a life grounded in service, friendship, and community.  After graduating from high school, Leif joined the U.S. Air Force.  He served with honor in Germany and the Middle East during 9/11, driven by a deep commitment not only to his country, but to the well-being of others and the planet we share.

Leif is survived by his wife, Kelly; his daughter, Abigaile; his sister, Janet; his brother, Lloyd; and his father, Glenn.  He is also remembered by extended family, close friends, colleagues, and a wide network of fellow servicemen and Masons.

Leif brought his full heart and soul to everything he did.  He was a big presence at White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base - known for his energy, insight, and warmth.  Beyond his work, he was a dedicated and beloved member of the Masonic community across New Mexico and beyond, and an active participant in the Civil Air Patrol, local VFW Chapter, and his church.

He loved music and theater, good meals shared with people he cared about, and the kind of laughter that fills a room and lingers.  He found peace at his cabin in Cloudcroft, and joy in a recent trip to Sweden where he reconnected with his roots at a family reunion.  He was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan and had a soft spot for all things Disney - especially Lilo & Stitch, whose spirit of family and mischief matched his own.

Leif lived with generosity, curiosity, and intention.  He leaves behind a lasting legacy - woven through the lives of those who knew him and the communities he helped shape.

The Molander family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
