Joyce Berdella Lockhart

Joyce Berdella Lockhart, 78, of Cloudcroft, New Mexico passed away on May 14, 2023. She was born on January 18, 1945, to the late Clifford and Doris Chappell. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bill Chappell, and her sister Ginger Lawrence. 

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Benny Lockhart; her children and their spouses, Laura and Dee Woolam, Pam and Mickey Oglesby, and Benny and Staci Lockhart; her 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Janet Gregory and Sharon Hollingsworth; her brother-in-law, Archie Lockhart; sisters- in-law, Zoa Brown and Jo Nita Tennyson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joyce had a heart for serving her family and loved ones. She loved to take her grandkids Christmas shopping and took them all to the mountains for Memorial Day Weekend. Joyce also had a passion for cooking and spent many hours in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family.

Joyce loved working at Sundown ISD in the school cafeteria, where she served for 25 years. She had a heart for cooking and serving the kids at the school. She also taught Pilates for a few years. 

Joyce was a faithful member at Park Drive Baptist Church in Levelland, TX for many years before moving to Cloudcroft.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed sitting in her chair playing solitaire or reading a good book. She enjoyed taking trips with her sisters and traveling around to see her children and grandchildren. She loved sitting outside on her porch watching the hummingbirds and deer, enjoying the nature around her. These hobbies brought her joy and relaxation.

Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and devotion will live on through her family and community. 

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm MST on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel. 

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm MST, Thursday, May 25, 2023, at James Canyon Cemetery in Cloudcroft.

The Lockhart family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
