Josephine Gonzales Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we are announcing the passing of our loving mother Josephine Ida Archuleta Gonzales. She was born January 21, 1938 in Red River, NM to Frank and Floraida Archuleta. She entered into heaven on Mothers Day, May 9, 2021 surrounded by her family at the home.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Daniel A. Gonzales; her parents; two sons, Jimmy and Joseph Gonzales; grandchildren, Junior Herrera and Alasia Gonzales; siblings, Jerry Archuleta and Dorothy Maestas; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. 

She is survived by her children, Marlene, Flora. Gary, Terry, and JoeDan Gonzales, Charlene Chavez and Deborah Williams, siblings, Priscilla Palacio, Francis Miller, Lawrence Archuleta, Maryann and Tino Montoya, Henry and Theresa Archuleta, and Bertha and Juan Rivera; aunt Viola Martinez and uncle Bobby Archuleta. 

Her grandchildren include, Tommy and Aaron Diaz, Desiree and Rob Lonsinger, Danette and Sam Blazer, Steven and Sean Williams, James, Rudy and Daniel Garcia, Felis and Jesus Roman, Angel Dawn and Lukus Gonzales, Zachariah Clark Gonzales, Caeleigh, Anthony and Lillyana Herrera, Jaycee and EmmaLynn Betancur, Sylvia and Erica Ward, Audree and Nate Morales. Great Grandchildren include, Makhi, DeAndre, Elis and Kataleya Roman, Devon Gonzales, Maeleeah Prins, Kurtisey, Karmello and Heavenlee Swain, Jimmy and Avaley Garcia, Kameron and Addison Blazer, Samiyah, Aalyiah and Audriana Williams, Patrick Lathan, Veronica and Christina Diaz and Riley Rocha. Her Godchildren, Aaron Diaz, David Najar, Charity Sanchez, Evelyn Luevano and Victoria Overby. 

Josephine dedicated her life to the upbringing of her own children and grandchildren and many family friends who called her mom and grandma.

The Vigil with Rosary for Josephine Gonzales will be recited at 6:00 pm, Thursday, May 13, 2021 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa, NM by 
family friend Liz Chavez.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church with Father Marcel Okonkwo, Celebrant.

Jospehine will be laid to rest next to her husband immediately following at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Tularosa. 

Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy is limited to no more than 150 people at a time.  Please practice social distancing at all times and follow COVID safe practices. 

Pallbearers include Aaron Diaz, David Najar, Sean Williams, Anthony Herrera, Daniel Garcia, Zachariah Gonzales, Lukus Gonzales, and Makhi Roman.

Honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren, Melanie Vigil, Tabitha Quattlander, Duane Herrera, and Sam Blazer. 

At this time, the family would love to acknowledge Katie Garcia, Jackie Cano, Tabitha Quattlander, and the staff of PMS Tularosa Medical Center for their excellent care our loving mother.

The Gonzales family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
