In his younger years, he loved boxing and was a Golden Glove Champion from 1956-1960 and was known as Joey Jay Rey. He had a love for animals (dogs, cats, cattle, goats, sheep and pigs.) In his later years, he enjoyed golfing and installed putting greens at a few of his homes.
