Jose Chapa Obituary

Jose Chapa, 87, passed away on September 7, 2022, peacefully at his home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on December 14, 1934, in Rio Grande City, Texas to Jose Maria Chapa and Francisca Chapa. Jose lived in Rio Grande City most of his young life through early adulthood until he joined the Air Force and traveled the world. He met the love of his life, Petra Chapa, in San Antonio and they were married for over 60 years.

Jose served in the Air Force for 22 years as an Aerial Ground Crew Mechanic and retired in Alamogordo, New Mexico. After his retirement from the Air Force, he then worked at Holloman AFB for 20 more years working for various Military Contractors and worked at the Holloman AFB Bowling Alley. Never wanting to stop working well into his age of 80, his last job was being a Customer Service Attendant at the Super 8 Motel in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Jose loved meeting people and making new friends every day. His favorite pass time was to spend time with family and to cheer on his favorite NFL Football Team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Jose Chapa is survived by his wife, Petra Chapa; sister, Marcela Reyes; children, Jose (Sara) Chapa of Fort Worth, Texas, Sonia (Chuck) Vigansky of Syracuse, Utah, and Daniel (Lisa) Chapa of Antelope, California. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: grandchildren include Shane Jiron, Ryan Vigansky, Megan Vigansky, Lauren Vigansky, Kalli Armstrong, Cheyenne Rea, Savannah Bremmer, Kaitlyn Chapa, Taylor Chapa, Justin Maese, Celina Chapa, Mason Chapa, and Gavin Chapa; great grandchildren include Lindsey Chapa, Valerie Chapa, Tyler Vigansky, Ernie Jiron, and Emmett Jiron.
