Jonathan Porter Obituary

Jonathan Dewey Porter, age 40, ended his life on April 26, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with mental illness and addiction. He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin Dewey Porter; dear friend, Shay Holmgren; and his best dog, Ceelo. Survivors include his mother, Linda Porter; sister, Darci Porter; nephew, Jordan Rollison; and close friends, Kyle Haynie, Harry “Bud” Olden, Steve Anderson, Travis Marshall, Ryan McGinnis, and Malik Smith; all of whom will miss Jon more than words can describe.

Jon was born in Alamogordo, NM and graduated from Alamogordo High School in 2002. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Programming and worked in data entry.  He was an avid reader of science fiction books.  He loved the Dallas Cowboys and FC Dallas.

Above all, Jon enjoyed spending time with his nephew, Jordan. Jon taught Jordan how to ride a bike. They enjoyed playing FIFA and watching the Little League World Series each year. Jon loved to watch Jordan play soccer and basketball. When Jordan’s dad passed away, Jon stayed by Jordan’s side.

Despite fighting like cats and dogs as children, Jon and his sister, Darci, became best friends as adults. Jon could make Darci laugh endlessly with the quick wit he inherited from his father. They would have deep talks about life’s challenges and used humor to get through tough times. They loved to watch soccer games together, even when Darci lived in Texas.

Jon enjoyed spending time with his mom at their cabin in Cloudcroft. They watched the birds and other wildlife together. Jon enjoyed taking photos of the birds which he gifted to his mom this past Christmas. He was always his mom’s heart, and she was his.

Every moment was more special when you shared it with a brother. Jon was a brother to so many.  He had a group of close-knit friends that became his brothers. As kids, this group of boys engaged in various shenanigans, most of which cannot be put into writing for legal purposes! From riding dirt bikes to racing cars, these boys were always found together.

A Memorial Service for Jonathan will be held at Alamogordo Funeral Home on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 6:00 pm.
