Johnny F Mendez

Johnny F Mendez, 59, of Tularosa, New Mexico passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on February 25, 1962 to the late Johnnie R Mendez and Ester M (Baca) Mendez. Johnny served in the National Guard for 12 years, 1979-1991. He then had numerous jobs as a construction worker, carpenter, plumber, and landscaper as well as working at the Trible Enterprises.

In the summer of 1984, Johnny met and married Janet M Telles of Mescalero, NM and they were happily married for 23 years.  Together they had two daughters, Estelle E Mendez of Alpine, TX and Laurie A Mendez of Mescalero, NM. 

In the summer of 2010, Johnny had a horrible accident that resulted in him becoming severely injured and lived out the remainder of his life in Tularosa, NM. He enjoyed being outdoors hiking, camping and fishing. He especially loved going out looking for Elk sheds. Johnny loved all of his family and friends dearly and would always help anyone who would ask him.

Survivors include his daughters, Estelle Mendez and Laurie Mendez; his grandchildren, Ileana R Rice (11) and Logan S Poncho (3); 8 brothers and 2 sisters: Robert Mendez of Mescalero, NM, Christopher Mendez of Bent, NM, David Mendez of Tularosa, NM, Pablo Mendez of Tularosa, NM, Carlos Mendez of Tularosa, NM, Nathaniel Kazhe of Mescalero, NM, Deland Kazhe of Elk Grove, CA, Pete Shanta of Alamogordo, NM, Christina Mendez of Rio Rancho, NM, and Monica Kazhe-Dorme of Tularosa, NM; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie R Mendez and Ester M Baca of Bent, NM.

Visitation and Rosary will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Dave Mercer, Celebrant.

Burial will follow at the Bent Catholic Cemetery.

The Mendez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
