Retired SMSgt John Joseph Sage, Jr. can finally breathe easy.
John, the oldest of twin boys, born to John J. Sage, Sr. and Alice Callahan, born September 1, 1945 in Troy, NewYork, left this world peacefully in his sleep April 13, 2021.
John was a 1963 graduate from La Salle Institute in Troy, NewYork. From there he made his career with the United States Air Force for 22 years, serving 3 tours in Viet Nam. At the end of his military service, John merely changed uniforms and continued doing what he loved, being an Air Craft Mechanic at Holloman AFB, in Alamogordo, NM for 23 years.
John was a life member of the BPO Elks 1897 and VFW 7686. He was a member of The Moose Lodge 2016, DAV, Amvets and American Legion. John was a Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4101 as well as a State President of NM.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Sage, Sr. and Alice Callahan; his first wife, Cynthia Thibodeaux; and Father-in-law, AR (Buck) Barcheers.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie of the family home; son, Michael Sage (Renee), granddaughters, Helen and Charlotte of Eureka, Montana; son, Sam Glodt (Lisa), grandson, Kyle and granddaughter, Kaylee of Belen, NM; daughter, Audrey Inga and husband Tony of Austin, TX; daughter, Abby Smith (Grant), grandsons, Rylin and Radyn of Centerville, VA; twin Brother, William Sage (Mary Ellen) of Latham, NY; younger brother, James Sage (Betty) of Troy, NY; mother-in-law, Pat Barcheers of Austin, TX; brothers- in-law, Bill Barcheers (Patricia) of Hemphill, Tx and Marty Barcheers (Cindy) of Odessa, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Smith (Jeff) of Austin, TX; honorary mother, Juanita Kohlweck of Alamogordo, NM.
A walk thru visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 19th, 2021 at the Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 East First Street, Alamogordo, NM.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 20th, 2021 at Ft. Stanton Cemetery, 104 Kit Carson Road, Ft. Stanton, NM.
Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy at the visitation is limited to no more than 10 people at a time. Further, attendance at the graveside is limited to 10 people as well. Please practice social distancing at all times. Thank you for adhering to the Department of Health mandate.
