Joe F. Olivarez, 91, passed away May 5th, 2021 in Alamogordo, NM. He was born on June 3rd, 1929 in Alamogordo to Encarnacion and Manuela (Flores) Olivarez.
He served in the Army and fought in the Korean War. Once he completed his military duties, he then began his career at the Alamogordo Sawmill until his retirement.
When Joe wasn't building or working around the house, he loved creating family films. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and watching his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins and favorite baseball team, LA Dodgers.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Sandoval Olivarez; daughter, Gloria Terrazas and husband (Jesse); son, Joe A. Olivarez and wife (Kathy); daughter, Geneva St. John and husband (Darvin II); grandsons, Jesse Jr. Terrazas and wife (Maryjane), Mario Jr. Maynez, David Lopez , Richard Lopez, Darvin St. John III; granddaughters, Gina Esparza and husband (Rigo), Stephanie Hierro and husband (Manuel); son-in-law, Freddy McGrath (Suwan); 14 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Sida and husband (Tito); as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death, by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and his daughter, Veronica Maynez McGrath.
The Olivarez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
