Jimmy Swope

Jimmy Swope, born October 25, 1960 in Alamogordo, NM to his loving parents David and Lucille Swope whom he is survived by. Jimmy left this world for a far greater home in heaven on April 10, 2022 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.

Jimmy is survived by his love, Kathy Swope; his three children, Robbi Ceniceros and her children: son, Taylor (Shelby) and their children Keegan and Kendalyn, and daughter, Cyanne (Owen); David Swope (Deborah) and his children: MacKenzie, Gage, and Bennie; Drew Swope and his children: Aubree, Danielle, Cylas, Caleb, and Caden; his brothers, Norman and Dave; many nieces and nephews; and cousins, Bonnie and Ed. 

Jimmy was also survived by many students, athletes, and fellow teachers that he held in his heart forever. He gave of himself teaching Math in Weed, Reserve, Cloudcroft, Moriarty, and Estancia schools. He loved knowing when students finally “got” the concepts he taught. He spent countless hours coaching. Some of his fondest memories were those around the basketball and volleyball courts. An athlete himself, Jimmy loved pushing kids to meet their full potential on and off the court. He retired a couple of times, never saying no when a school needed him to step up. 

We will all miss this full of life man who loved working in the woods and working on his garden. He was a master in the garden and his vegetables were the best around. Always the jokester, he was always trying to come up with new funny things to tease his friends and family. The words he’d want us all to live by were his mantra to all his athletes "Keep a smile on your face and love in your heart". 

Cremation has taken place. A memorial is scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Alamogordo Funeral home. 

A larger memorial will be held at the Cloudcroft High School gym at a later date.

The Swope family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
