Janice May Nowell

Janice May Nowell, 77, has left us and has gone home to be with our maker. She was in the company of her three children when she peacefully passed on October 3, 2025.

Our mother was born on June 30, 1948, in Bristow, Oklahoma to Ivan and Ruby Vann of High Rolls, NM. She spent most of her life living in High Rolls where she spent many years working at the High Rolls grocery store. There she got to know and enjoy the company of a lot of the residents in the community. She will always be remembered for her strong will, kind heart, and generosity.  

Janice is survived by her son, Nathan Nowell and his wife Kassi; her daughter, Amy Thatcher and her husband David; and her youngest, Jennifer Davis and her husband Marc. Janice is also survived by her younger brother, Terry Vann of High Rolls.

Our Mom had several grandchildren spread out over several states, Adina and her husband Daryll, Nathaniel (Bubba), Michael and Carleigh, Samantha and her husband Ryan, Sarah and her fiancé Zack, Selena Ellen, Dylan and his wife Tamaris, Dakota and her husband Jon, Courtney and her husband Garren, Victoria and her husband Jason. She was also blessed with several great grandchildren, Oliver, Amaya, Ava, Marcus, Zoey, Sophia, and soon to be joining us, baby Midas.  

Mom was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Ivan and Ruby Vann, and her brother Gary Vann.  

Our mother has left us, but her passing has brought us together so that we may all remember the importance of family and the life we all have together. Hug your loved ones often, and say “I love you”, because life won’t slow down for any of us.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Senior Center in High Rolls.  

In lieu of flowers, we would prefer a donation to be made to the High Rolls Senior Center to help those that are still with us. We will provide a meal for all who wish to join us in celebrating our mother’s life.

The Nowell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
