James Stone Obituary

James Floyd Stone "Floyd" a much-loved husband, brother, father, and grandfather passed away on June 15, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1944 to William and Mildred Stone of La Luz, New Mexico. Floyd grew up with his two siblings, his brother Alfred Stone and his sister Phyllis Stone. 

He was a man of many trades, skills, and hobbies. He owned a mechanic shop in El Paso in his early years, he was a school bus contractor in La Luz, he owned and operated a store in La Luz, and he worked the family ranch throughout his life. But of all the things that he did, racing cars was his passion. He won countless races including the 1996 southwest championship. He was known as the "Rollin Stone". For over 50 years, Floyd built cars that always wowed the crowd and his impressive racing skills landed him on the front page of many newspapers.

Floyd's other hobbies included, but were not limited to, camping, fishing, hunting, western dancing, four wheeling, boating, flying his drone, tinkering with engines, and driving anything that had wheels or an engine.

On July 4th, of 1992 he married the love of his life, Sue Stone. They filled their life with fast cars, dancing, wine tasting, and a love of farming the land.

Floyd Stone has touched many lives in his lifetime. He made people laugh, he loved those dearest to him, but he also shared his knowledge and love of the things he enjoyed the most.

Floyd Stone will be heavily missed by his many family members and friends. Floyd Stone was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Stone; his brother, Alfred Stone; and his son, Scott Caswell. He is survived by his wife, Sue Stone; his sister, Phyllis Stone; his son's, Curtis Stone, Austin Stone, and Bill Caswell; his daughters-in-law, Kathy Stone, Brenda Stone, and Joyce Caswell; his ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, Justin, Danielle, Jered, Trey, Jake, Grady, Landon, Angel, Scott, Bella, and Brooke.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, 2301 First Street in Alamogordo, NM.

The funeral service for James Stone will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday June 21, 2022 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Pastor Matt Carrell officiating.

Burial will follow at the family cemetery located at 148 Rock Cliff Road in La Luz, NM.

The Stone family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
