James Myhre Obituary

James Owen Myhre, 68, passed from this life into the next at Memorial Hospital in Las Cruces on January 27, 2021 after a long battle with his health. Jim, as he is known by his friends, was born on March 4, 1952 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Milton and Florence Myhre.

Jim excelled in football, basketball and track before he graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1971. When Jim graduated, he joined the US Air Force and served with honor and distinction for 20 years as an Aircraft Armament Technician distinguishing himself as a Vietnam War Veteran. During his assignment to Korat Thai Air Base in Thailand he met his future wife of 48 years, Narida Nakonsri. They were married on March 2, 1973. Jim and Narinda (or "Linda" as she is known by friends) had no children and enjoyed traveling and sharing as much time as possible together. Linda reminds her friends often about how much Jim loved her. Jim also enjoyed the fellowship of his friends of the local VFW, watching horse racing and Western movies on TV. He had a true affection for animals, especially Thomas and Dirty his favorite cats of the innumerable cats that believe they live with Jim and Linda. After Jim retired from the Air Force he drove a long haul truck for 6 months and found that this kept him away from Linda for too long. He quit that job and went to work at the Holloman AFB Commissary in the Produce Department and, again, distinguished himself until he retired from that job. Jim will be greatly missed by friends and family, especially for his smile, sense of humor and love of life.

Jim was a supportive member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2016 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7686 in Alamogordo. He was also a member of the Legion Post 249 in Spring Grove, Minnesota. Jim enjoyed the fellowship and fraternity of his "brothers" of the Moose, VFW, and Lodge.

Survivors include Narinda and his brother Richard (Arlis) Myhre of New Albin, Iowa and three nephews who live in Minnesota. Jim was preceded in death his parents, Milton and Florence Myhre, and his brother, Milton C. Myhre.

There will be a viewing at the Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 First Street, Alamogordo on Monday, February 8, 2021 between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Jim will be interred at Ft. Stanton National Cemetery, 1398 Hwy 220, Ft. Stanton, NM, with full military honors on February 10, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy at the visitation is limited to no more than 5 people at a time. Further, attendance at the graveside is limited to 5 people as well.
