James Edward Morrison, USAF SMSgt Retired, passed away peacefully on Monday July 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old. James served 25 years in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnamese Wars. While proudly serving, James was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. James spent 15 years after his USAF retirement working for General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) before retiring again and moving with his wife Gloria to Tularosa, New Mexico. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time together with family and friends.
James was born on April 1, 1934, to Rhoda Ethel White Morrison and James Tully (Tud) Morrison who preceded him in death. James was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Ludena Garner, Helen Wood Jennings, and Dorothy Wood Van Buskirk as well as his brother, Roy Franklin Garner (killed in action in WW II).
James is survived by his wife, Gloria Chavez Morrison; daughters, Anna Maria Legrand and husband Luke, Susan Lynn Johnson and husband Rusty; grandchildren, Jason Kristopher Mitchell and wife Sara Ellen, Andrew Jefferson Mitchell and wife Kylie, Ashley Kate Mitchell, Taylor Alexander Johnson, Haley Ryan Johnson, Trey Allan Johnson, Claire Christine Legrand, Andrew Scott Legrand and wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Dylan Janette Mitchell and Amelia Darling Mitchell.
Services will be posted at a later date for early September.
The Morrison family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
