Helgie Craig left the pain and suffering of this world on October 30, 2021 surrounded by her immediate family. She was born in Pahl, Germany on October 29, 1943 to Ulrich and Frieda Tarnowski. God bestowed upon Helgie a remarkable giftedness for music. Her instrument was her amazing soprano voice. Prior to arriving in the United States, she was asked to sing in the German Opera at age 13. After arriving in America, she was asked, on several occasions, to sing professionally to which she responded, “No, I must take care of my family.” She sang in the church choir, the Alamogordo Community Choir and as a soloist in many community venues, including weddings, funerals and other musical events. This was her service to her Alamogordo community.
Helgie worked as secretary/receptionist at City Glass Company for Dick Williamson for nearly 20 years prior to assuming ownership. Helgie was known for her infectious smile, her kindness and her giving spirit, but best of all, she was a hugger. She loved to spread warmth and happiness through her hugs at The Kingdom Hall.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim Craig and her sister, Trudy Williams; two daughters: Kathy Hopkins and her husband, Mike and Patty Edwards and her husband, Mark; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and son, Mark Craig.
A remembrance of Helgie’s life will be held at the Scenic Chapel on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 4:00 pm with Michael Higgins, Jehovah’s Witness Elder, officiating.
The Craig family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
