Gregory Jones

Gregory Jones, 56, a native of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away at his residence in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday, June 24, 2021. He was born October 3, 1964 to James “Jimmy” and Lula Mae (Scott) Jones.

Greg grew up in Alamogordo and was an Alamogordo High School alumnus where he played football. He was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed life and never met a stranger.

Gregory accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He united with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Alamogordo, and was baptized February 23, 1975 under the leadership of Pastor Wilson Holly.

Greg enlisted into the Unites States Navy in April 1989 following his high school graduation. He was assigned to the destroyer USS Leftwich. During Desert Storm, he and his shipmates fired the very first Tomahawk cruise missiles into Iraq. Greg was always very proud that he was a true “wartime” veteran.

He returned to Alamogordo following his Navy discharge. A career with American Airlines began March of 1996 in El Paso, Texas. He had been a valued member of the LAS Ramp Team since July 6, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home with Pastor Willard L. Avery of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church officiating.

Greg was preceded in death by his father on December 10, 2001, and his mother February 24, 2015.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Gloria Scott and Janice (Frank) Logan both of Alamogordo, New Mexico; brothers, Raphus Williams of Savannah, Georgia, Gerald (Sonya) Jones of Augusta, Georgia, and Dennis R. (Joelene) Jones of Albuquerque, New Mexico; best friend, Adam Ferrara, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Jones’ family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the memorial services.
