Geronimo "Jerry" Sierra

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Geronimo “Jerry” Sierra, on October 5, 2023, at the age of 85 and is now resting peacefully following a long battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1938, in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Ester Noriega Sierra and Geronimo Sierra Sr.

Survivors include his five sons: Jerry Joe Sierra (Debra) Seminole, TX, Rudy Sierra, Frank Sierra (Diana), Carlos Sierra, Desmond Sierra (Debbie) all of Alamogordo; two daughters: Julie Dakin (Ron) San Antonio, TX and Yvonne Gurule (Hobert) Albuquerque, NM; stepson, Andy Martinez (Morgan). Geronimo was blessed with twenty-one grandchildren: Julie (Rene), Jerry Joe (Lovess, Michael, Dario, Christopher, Denice, Julian), Frank (Franklin, Vanessa Sierra, April Melgoza), Yvonne (Michelle Walters, Andrew, Anthony Rodriguez), Carlos (Crystal, Carlos Jr., Estrella Sierra), Desmond (Timmy, Tyler, Tiffany Rogers, Lillian, Grace Sierra); numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Manny, and Jose Hernandez; one sister, Inez Torres all of Alamogordo; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who he truly loved. 

Geronimo was preceded in death by his parents, Ester Noriega (Sierra) Hernandez and Geronimo Sierra Sr.; wife Julie (Martnez) Sierra; brother, Refugio Sierra; sisters: Yolanda Carabajal, Esther Nichols and Louise Welch.

Geronimo was well known throughout the community for his many diverse talents. In his earlier years he honed many skills in construction, and long-distance truck driving, followed by his life-long passion for auto-body and upholstery, which brought him many years of pleasure and great satisfaction, establishing many special friendships along the way, which he truly valued. Later he retired from Otero County, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, home life, and his pet turtles.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Mass celebrated at 11:00 am.

Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery with a short reception meet and greet to follow at the church Parish Hall.

Pallbearers include Franklin Sierra, Michael Sierra, Carlos Sierra Jr., Anthony Rodriguez, Tim Rodgers, and Tyler Rodgers.

Honorary pallbearers are JC Barreras, Christopher Aragon, Dario Sierra, Andrew Rodriguez, Julian Mendez, Franklin Sierra Jr., Jimmy Gillahan, and Raul Nichols.

The Sierra family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
