Our community has lost a pillar on Friday, September 10, 2021 when Mrs. Florence Leone Lucero lost her battle with cancer.
Born on November 15, 1939, which may have been long to many, but not long enough. Florence was a wife and mother of three children. She held careers as a nurse and a teacher before becoming a principal which she held for many years until her retirement in May of 2000.
Florence loved to sew, from making her own clothes, to making many quilts. She was an artist and a creator of many paintings, which hang on our walls. Whatever Florence put her mind to do, she did it very well. Florence was very crafty, and used it as her away time.
Florence was ready to debate politics any time of the day. She always had a strong opinion about what was right for a majority of the people.
Florence is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Mr. Levy Lucero; children, Wayne Lucero and his wife Audrey, and Carrie Potter and her husband Robert. She enjoyed 8 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Emery Moore and her brothers, James Gates and Ralph Gates.
Florence will be missed by the Lucero family, Gates family and many friends.
The Lucero family has entrusted their loved one to the care of PCS and Alamogordo Funeral Home.
