TSgt (retired) Eugene (Gene) Paul Quick, age 87, a remarkable man and father passed away at his home on July 19, 2023.
Gene enlisted in the US Air Force as a young man in Iowa and he served our country for 21 years, retiring in Alamogordo, NM. He saw duty in various parts of the world, including Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, Germany and various Air Force bases including Luke and Holloman. In the early years he worked on P-51 Mustangs. He also worked as a jet mechanic and worked the Wild Weasels program, which his son Dan also worked on during his stint in the US Air Force. Gene worked on many classified programs and would often take off on trips where the family knew nothing about his location or what he was working on. Later we learned he worked the scud missiles used during the Gulf War. While working at White Sands Missile Range, Gene worked on photographing a cruise missile that was launched off the northwest coast from a submarine. He once had Chuck Yeager take one of his aircraft that he was crew chief on for a test flight and was upset with Chuck because he damaged his aircraft and wouldn’t follow protocol in wearing a parachute! Following retirement from the US Air Force he immediately went to work for Dynacorp, where he retired after 20 years.
Gene enjoyed many things during his retirement years, including golf. In addition, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his son Mark, doing puzzles and traveling. He enjoyed his visits to Arizona to see family. One of the highlights Gene enjoyed was going to rocket launches at Vandenberg Air Force Base with his daughter Kris during her work assignment. He also enjoyed attending his son Dan’s car races which were held all over the country. Dan was so proud of his dad that he included his name on one of his race cars. Three of his sons, Dan, Doug and Dale also served their country in the US Air Force, following in his footsteps.
Gene is survived by his wife, Joyce of 61 years; children, Dave Robson, Doug (Patti) Robson, Dale (Julie) Robson, Mark (Miki) Quick, Kris (Eugene) Cupps, Kathy (Len) Collins; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Sadly, he is preceded in death by his sons, Daniel Robson and Micheal Quick.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers he encountered at Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital, as well as the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, he would want donations made to the Mayo Clinic and Pilots To The Rescue. Arrangements are being handled by Alamogordo Funeral Home. No services will be held at this time.
