Elwood Lowe Obituary

Elwood L. Lowe passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on December 18, 2021. Elwood was born on January 26, 1932 in Brentwood Arkansas to Velma and Taylor Jackson "TJ" Lowe. Elwood was raised in a loving home alongside his brothers Jackie and Wendell Lowe.

Upon graduation from Carlsbad High School in 1950, Elwood married his childhood sweetheart Margaret Wilson on Jan 14, 1951.  Prior to joining the US Air Force, he worked with his family building and planting churches in many small towns in New Mexico and Texas.  Elwood served in the Air Force from 1951 thru 1955 and was stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska and later at MacDill AFB, Florida. Elwood and Margaret started their family while in the Air Force with the birth of their son Kenneth followed by the births of their daughters Pamela and Denise.

Anyone who knew Elwood knew he was an adventuress and loving person and a man of many professions.  When he was discharged from the Air Force, he worked in the construction business and later started his own construction business building homes for over 30 years in the Alamogordo and the Albuquerque areas.  During his life he owned several other businesses, but one of his most cherished accomplishments was when he started the Youth Life Drug Rehab Center in Albuquerque from 1971-1974 where he helped many young adults with their drug addiction problems.  Elwood also served as a pastor for many years with the Church of God of Prophecy and pastored the church located on Indian Wells Drive. Elwood was known for his generosity and loving heart and would help those in need with an encouraging word or in any other way needed.  In his younger years, Elwood was avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the many hunting and fishing trips with family and friends throughout the Southwest and Mexico. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren and there was not an Amusement Park unknown to them.

Elwood is preceded in death by his parents, Velma and T.J. Lowe; brother, Jackie; son, Kenneth; and nephew, Hermon.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of over 70 years; his brother, Wendell (Yvonne) of Douglasville, GA; daughter, Pamela (Victor) of Harker Heights, TX; daughter, Denise of Alamogordo, NM; sister-in-law, Jetta Lee of Alamogordo, NM; nephews, Thurman (Darlene) of La Luz, NM, Gary (Sheri) and nieces, Sharon (John) and Jan all of Douglasville, GA.  He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Skyy, Angel, Ryan and Derrick and 20 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center Facility Hospital Staff and especially his attending physician, Dr. George Imuro for the wonderful health care and compassion they provided Elwood during his most recent stay.  The family would also like to thank Encompass Hospice Staff for their assistance helping make Elwood comfortable during his final hours.
