Edward Richard Harig, 76, of Cloudcroft, New Mexico passed away on May 5, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Edward was born on February 17, 1945 in Pottsville, PA to Clarence R and Emma E (Swavely) Harig. He was the 10th of 12 children.
After graduating from High School in 1963, he enlisted in the Navy where he served until September of 1989. He retired as a MMC Chief Petty Officer. Edward was a member of the American Legion for 19 years and the VFW for 19 years.
Known as Uncle Butch to one and all, he enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and riding his ATV around the neighborhood; meeting new people, which quickly became friends.
Because of his disabilities, he lived with his younger brother Karl and his wife Marilyn and family for 23 years.
Edward is survived by his brothers, Karl (Marilyn) of Cloudcroft and William (Ellen) of Pottsville PA; sister, Jane Wertz of Pine Grove PA; nieces and nephews, Steve (Riah) Leland of Omaha, NE, Kris Harig of Cloudcroft NM, Karl Lee II Harig, Brian Harig, Allen Harig all of Pottsville PA, Ashley Harig of Cloudcroft NM, and too many more to mention in his large family.
Edward had four stepsons, Bennie (D-82), Bill, Coey, and Randy Bellinger; two stepdaughters, Vanessa Crumlich and Tabitha Greene; daughter, Jodie (Kenneth) Rachel of Atlanta TX and son, Russell (Megan) of Springfield MO as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the Community United Methodist Church in High Rolls/ Mt Park, NM, 33 Haynes Canyon Rd with Pastor Bruce Freeman officiating.
Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy is limited to no more than 150 people at a time. Please practice social distancing at all times and follow COVID safe practices.
Burial services will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The Harig family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
