Earl Carmelo Galea, 69, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Loving husband of Patricia Galea, father to three terrific children Wendy Galea; Heather Galea Smith (Brian); Jay Galea (Kirsten Cook) and loving “Papa” to Zachery Smith (Bailey), Sarah “Micahiah” Galea, and Lola Galea.
Following graduation from Lincoln Park High School, Lincoln Park Michigan in 1969 he enlisted in the Army. He retired from the U.S. Army to Trenton Michigan in 1989 after serving his country at Fort Bliss, TX; Missile sites in Michigan; Korea, Fort Hood, TX; Fort Belvoir, VA; and two tours to Germany for a total of 7 years. Earl and Pat spent 17 of the first 20 years of retirement providing care and support first to his mother-in-law in Trenton, Michigan, then relocating to the Daytona Beach area of Florida where they resided to assist his parents David and Betty Galea along with his dad’s sister Jeannie Nitz. Earl was a life-long, and 3rd generation member, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was no stranger to providing service. Most recently he provided support to Otero Hunger Coalition.
He is survived by his sisters Barbara Goins (Charles) of Durham NC and Patricia Ambrus (Gary) of Taylor Michigan along with numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held Tuesday, October 20th (9am viewing, 10 am Memorial Service) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1800 23d Street, Alamogordo NM. Interment will follow Wednesday at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
