Doug and Lyn Essex

Doug and Lyn Essex Obituary

Douglas Francis Essex & Lyn Farmer Essex - The end of an era.

We've lost our beloved Grandpa Doug and Mom Lyn Essex, only four short months apart. We'll always remember Doug as the highly sarcastic, lighthearted grandpa to our kids, who was the perfect match for Mom, a creature of habit and homebody who made everyone feel comfortable. Mom was so proud to see her kids grow up, get married, and bless her with grandchildren; she loved being Grandma Lyn.

Lyn and Doug married in 1994, and immediately bought a little bar in the middle of the desert, the My Place Bar. Thousands visited to unwind, laugh, have a Schlitz with Doug, and enjoy Mom's always ready beans and cornbread. Doug was the "sheriff of these here parts", and Mom was the belle of the ball. The beer was cold, the food was warm, the door was always open for friends, and everyone was a friend. Weekends were for shooting pool and watching football. Doug may have pretended to be a die-hard Cowboys fan like Mom, but we recently found a letter he wrote in 1969, requesting a position on Vince Lombardi's new Redskins' coaching staff. The Skins politely declined, in a personal letter to Doug, highlighted by Vince Lombardi's iconic signature at the bottom. Who knows what they missed out on...

Doug and Lyn are missed terribly by their kids; Kristin and Chris Donahue, Pete and Diane Kelly, Barry and Brian Essex, and their grandkids Caden and Carson Donahue, and Sophia and Samantha Kelly. Special love and thanks to those close friends who helped to care for them. Doug and Lyn had too many great friends to name; we are sad for your loss as well as our own. These two meant the world to all of us, we love you all for loving them. As big brother Jim said, “stay a little in touch if the good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.”

Donations towards cancer research in their honor would be appreciated.
